Detoxing and Cleansing

Who should NOT undertake a juice cleanse

Our cold pressed juice cleanses feature 100% raw, fresh pressed juice that is unpasteurised or treated in any way to extend the products shelf life. Our product is natural and can contain bacteria that can be harmful for some people.

Pregnant and breastfeeding women, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems, diabetes or undergoing current treatment for illness should not cleanse.

Have these cleanses been reviewed by a dietitian?

Yes, our juice cleanses have been reviewed by a qualified dietitian. You can read the dietitian report here.

Should I cleanse when I am pregnant or breast feeding?

No we do not recommend it. The cleansing process is one of detoxification and these toxins can leave the body via breast milk meaning they could be passed on. Additionally, the reduced calorie intake is not enough to fuel two bodies. You can drink a daily juice and continue with your healthy lifestyle but save the cleansing for later.

I am on prescription medication, can I cleanse?

We are not medical practitioners, nor do we know the reasons that have led to you being prescribed medication. For this reason, we recommend you consult a suitably qualified medical practitioner before commencing your cleanse. On many occasions cleansing will not have any impact on your medication, but please do check prior to taking the Daily Habit journey.

The cleanse experience / while I am cleansing

In what order do I drink the juices?

Each bottle is numbered in the order of drinking. This drinking order and juice variety was determined to support the concept of balanced micronutrient distribution.

At what times do I drink the juices?

The detailed Daily Habit guide to cleansing booklet which comes with each juice cleanse contains suggested times for juice consumption. While these times are intended to deliver optimal drink distribution, life happens and it is not always possible to drink at the prescribed times. Rest assured, the cleanse will still work if you are early or late on drinking your juices.

Do I need to drink all of the juices in the cleanse?

We have planned for you to drink all the juices when we crafted our recipes and considered the daily kilojoule and calorie intake of each of the cleanses. As many of our juice cleanses are low calorie already, it is recommended that you do consume all juices. If you do fall short on one of the days, just continue on as per the schedule although you can choose to catch it up the next day.

Will I feel tired during my cleanse?

Everyone is different however there is a possibility that at some point you may experience decreased energy. This is particularly because you are consuming fewer kilojoules of fuel than usual and partly because the body is going through a transformation and it takes energy to adapt.  If you are tired, allow yourself to rest.  Your body will adapt and in now time you will feel refreshed and reenergised.

Will I be hungry during my juice cleanse?

This is a common challenge for many first-time cleansers and truly, everyone’s experience will be different. Drinking lots of water and even herbal tea in between juices can assist in suppressing the feeling of hunger.

Can I eat during my cleanse?

Our Purify and Low Fructose Deep Clean Cleanses are designed as liquid only juice fasts and eating is not suggested. By consuming solid foods which evoke digestive stress and require energy and effort, you are working against the cleanse and this may impact results. However, if you feel compelled to eat, listen to your body and do so, opt for almonds or a piece of fruit. You can also add your juice with a banana and berries to make a higher calorie smoothie.

How much water do I need to drink while cleansing?

Remaining hydrated during juice cleansing is essential. You should be consuming at least 3 litres of water per day of your cleanse and as much as feels practical.

Will I lose weight doing a cold pressed juice cleanse?

This is a common question; the simple answer is we don’t know how your body will react to this detoxification process! What we can say is that weight loss is a very common benefit of our cleanse programs. We can add some facts to that and highlight that your calorie intake while cleansing is below the average adult Recommended Daily Intake of 8700Kj’s and likely below the number of calories you usually consume. This can make it easier to burn more calories than you consume.

If weight loss is something you experience from the cleanse, please do view it as an added bonus as the primary purpose of the Daily Habit Alkalize Cleanse is to restore your systems alkaline balance while providing a much needed opportunity for your digestive system to heal and recover.

Will the cleanse change my bathroom behaviour?

More than likely yes and the degrees to which your bathroom rituals change will vary from person to person. The toxicity state of your body when you start the cleanse will have an impact, likewise, if you are new to consuming high amounts of alkalising raw food, your body may respond more dramatically.

Most people experience one level of the scale or the other. As you are consuming less each day of the cleanse, it stands to reason that there will be less leaving the system. The more common result of cleansing is that bowel movements will be sped up, especially if you are new to cleansing and do regularly consume the foods used to create our juices as the body will be in a transitional state while it adapts.

Is it ok to exercise while I cleanse?

Absolutely. We all know diet and exercise work hand in hand, and so too will exercise and cleansing. Additionally, sweating helps to release toxins. That said, please do keep in mind that a major benefit of this cleanse is to facilitate the restoration, recovery and healing of your digestive system.

When determining your exercise, consider the fact that your Cleanse will reduce your kilojoule and calorie intake and heavy trainers should be mindful of their workout schedules during a period of cleansing, high stress demanding work outs may be tiring, opt for lower exertion exercises for the duration of your cleanse such as walking, Xtend Barre, Yoga or Pilates.

Do you have a cleanse designed for active people who will continue exercising?

Yes! Our Full of Life cleanse has been developed specifically as an active cold pressed juice cleanse for those in training or who exercise frequently. This cleanse has been developed with and reviewed by a qualified dietician.

Can I drink alcohol while cleansing?

You know the answer to this one. Our answer is no, but we won’t tell you how to live your live, only how to get the best results from your cleanse! Alcohol slows liver function and pending your poison, contains many of the things which your cleanse is aiming to remove from your system.

Can I drink coffee during my cleanse?

It is not recommended. Coffee is acid forming and as this cleanse is the Alkalise cleanse with a purpose of restoring alkaline balance to your system, consumption of coffee is counter productive. If you must drink coffee, make it an espresso or short black, hold the sugar.

If you haven’t already, we recommend trying Roobois Tea, Green Tea or Yerba Mate tea, they are all fantastic substitutes for coffee.

Pre and post juice cleansing

How to prepare for a juice cleanse?

When you purchase your cleanse, we will send email you our pre cleanse information. It contains helpful tips on readying your body to enter a state of detoxification and fasting.

In general, preparation for your cleanse should start 2-3 days in advance. During this time you should make an active attempt to reduce your intake of processed foods, refined sugar, coffee, alcohol and soft drinks, dairy products and where you can, reduce your intake of acid forming animal proteins. At the same time, try to increase your intake of alkaline forming foods like fruits and vegetables and pH neutral grains, nuts and water. This will kickstart your cleansing process and ensure any transitional adjustments experienced when you begin your cleanse are mitigated.

How do I transition out of my cleanse?

For many cleansers, the conclusion of the juice cleanse is when many of the upsides are felt with the slow transition back onto wholesome solid foods providing additional energy allowing you to appreciate the benefits your body has enjoyed.

As your body will have experienced a number of changes during the cleanse and for this reason, it is important to ease out of your cleanse by eating avoiding soft drinks, alcohol, processed foods, refined sugar and coffee. Essentially, it is good practice to transition out of your juice cleanse the same way you transitioned in for 2-3 days.

When should I cleanse?

There perfect time to cleanse is whenever you are ready and willing to commit to cleansing. All of our juices are in convenient ready to drink, fully recyclable glass bottles and this means cleansing can easily be incorporated into your daily routine, whatever that may be.

Many people ask when is the right time to do a juice cleanse and look to health symptoms like ongoing fatigue, the feeling of getting sick, and transitioning into and out of training as ideal times to start a juice cleanse. Likewise, those looking to add an extra spring to their step and routine cleansers advocate cleansing at regular intervals such as the change of seasons, before and after holidays etc.

How regularly should I cleanse?

This is completely up to you. Many people cleanse at the start of each season, before an event, when they are feeling sick or run down or commonly, after a busy period where food and drink may have been consumed in excess. It is also common for our routine cleansers to do a 3 or 5 day cold pressed juice cleanse each quarter and a 1 day cleanse each month. Let your body be the judge.
