While we’re familiar with these terms, oftentimes it can be difficult to tell the difference between them. We wanted to take this opportunity to further consider the differences between a detox diet, fasting and a juice cleanse.
To help understand the benefits of detoxing via a change to your diet, fasting or undertaking a juice cleanse, it is first useful to understand what they each mean.
What is Detoxing?
Detoxing is the process of cleansing the blood and removing excess toxins from your system. There are many methods of detoxification and one of the most popular is via a change to your diet. The reason this is an effective form of detoxing is that if a healthy change to a diet can be sustained, it is low impact and easy to incorporatein to your daily life.
What is Fasting?
It is the intentional exclusion of all or certain types of food and drinks from your diet. Fasting is an ancient wellness practice with various references throughout the Bible, some believe it to be spiritual. While water and juice fasts are very common, the current focus is on intermittent fasting. Intermittent fasting means alternating between fasting and non-fasting states. The most popular types of intermittent fasting are whole day fasts. This is where a person selects days to eat a normal healthy diet, and days to fast, i.e. the 5:2 diet.
What is Cleansing?
Cleansing is a health practice to remove toxins from your body via detoxification and rejuvenation. Juice cleansing is a favourite cleansing option for people looking to rid their body of excess toxins, to cleanse their liver, and to bring about a positive health change.
Liquid only juice cleanses provide welcome relief for the digestive system which otherwise works tirelessly. This restoration and rejuvenation, coupled with the powerful benefit of resetting food behaviours is the biggest benefit of cleansing.
Juice Cleansing and your post-cleanse diet.
Our 1 and 3 day juice cleanse programs present a great opportunity to cleanse with a low intrusion, dietitian reviewed cleanse. Our past cleansers have experienced all of the benefits of cleansing from improved skin health, weight loss and reduced bloating. While these are welcomed benefits, the most common is how a juice cleanse makes you reconsider your diet and food habits.
To facilitate optimal health with minimal intrusion on your social life, we recommend undertaking a 3 day juice cleanse once per quarter. This is why food intake is such an important part of your total health regime. A 7 day detox diet or a cleanse may be great for short term results, but it is not sustainable.
We’ve got great tips for altering your diet in the days before and after a juice cleanse to help amplify your results. If you are considering a juice cleanse, we advise reading these Cleansing Tips.
